Opening – EP remembers Nelson Mandela and mourns attacks on Roma in Ukraine

President Tajani deplores attacks on Roma in Ukraine and remembers Nelson Mandela on the 100th anniversary of his birth, at the opening of the session in Strasbourg.

President Tajani remembered Nelson Mandela on the 100th anniversary of his birth. A concert will take place on 11 July in honour of Nelson Mandela in the European Parliament’s Yehudi Menuhin Hall, with the South African mission and in the presence of Mr Mandela’s widow, Graça Machel.

President Tajani expressed great concern for Roma communities in Ukraine, where a 24 year man old was attacked and killed and four others injured on 23 June. President Tajani expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. He recalled that the links between Ukraine and the EU are based on common values, including in particular  the rights of minorities.

Decisions by several committees to enter into inter-institutional negotiations (Rule 69c) are published on the plenary website.

If no request for a vote in Parliament on the decision to enter into negotiations is made by Tuesday 24.00, the committees may start negotiations.
