The Mission of China to the EU Holds a Youth Concert Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of China-EU Diplomatic Relations

On September 23, 2025, the Chinese Mission to the EU held a concert entitled “Melodies of Youth” at Flagey in Brussels. Ambassador Cai Run, Head of the Chinese Mission to the EU, attended the event and delivered a speech. Nearly 800 guests were present, including Ms. Li Yan, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Belgium, officials from EU institutions, Members of the European Parliament, heads of mainstream European media outlets and think tanks, diplomatic envoys to the EU and friends from various sectors in Europe.

In his speech, Ambassador Cai noted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment China-EU diplomatic ties, an important milestone for building on past achievements and looking into the future. In July, President Xi Jinping met with President António Costa of the European Council and President Ursula von der Leyen of the European Commission who were on a joint visit to China. Premier Li Qiang co-chaired the 25th China-EU Leaders’ Meeting with President Costa and President von der Leyen. The main task for both sides now is to work together to implement the important consensus reached by leaders of both sides and the outcomes of their meetings, and promote the sound and steady development of China-EU relations. The concert plays a positive and significant role for deepening friendship between the peoples of China and Europe, especially the younger generation, and for advancing China-EU relations. The concert also adds a festive touch to the celebration of the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

At the concert, Beijing National Day School Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir of the Kunsthumaniora Brussel jointly performed classic Chinese and European music including Jasmine Flower and selections from Carmen Suite, as well as pieces featuring a combination of both Chinese and European cultural elements. The event was brimming with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Guests praised the outstanding performance by the young musicians from China and Europe and expressed their wishes for another brighter 50 years for China-EU relations.
