Addressing global disparities in healthcare access and quality is an urgent priority. Medical education, the foundation of effective healthcare systems, faces increasing challenges in meeting the global demand for trained professionals, particularly in underserved regions. Transformative approaches to training must integrate technological advancements, embrace diversity and prioritize equity. To bridge these gaps, medical education strategies must empower healthcare leaders to address the evolving demands of global health while recognizing context-specific challenges.
One critical barrier to effective medical education is the unequal distribution of resources. Resource-limited settings frequently lack infrastructure, faculty and facilities for adequate training. Technology provides a pathway to address these challenges. As Baskar et al. (2012) emphasize in the context of radiation therapy, leveraging digital tools like online courses and telemedicine can significantly expand access to medical education. By overcoming geographical and financial barriers, students in remote or underserved areas can receive high-quality training without relying solely on physical infrastructure.
However, the adoption of technology must be complemented by localized curricula tailored to specific regional health challenges. Kazmierska et al. (2018) highlight the importance of aligning education with the epidemiological realities of cancer care in Europe, a principle that applies globally. For example, training in regions burdened
