Mario Draghi quizzed for last time by Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee

Mr Draghi took the opportunity to reiterate his calls for structural reforms to be prioritised in order to complete economic and monetary union, saying that “achieving these reforms is not idealistic, nor utopian, if we work together”. During the two separate hearings with Mr Draghi, MEPs focussed their questions on clarifying the next steps that the ECB would be taking, especially in view of the economy’s slowdown, Brexit and non-performing loans. Other questions focussed on the role of the Euro as an international currency, the tools needed for better economic governance, and the build-up of risk in certain sectors.
