President Tajani expressed solidarity with those affected by the eruption of the Fuego volcano in Guatemala, at the opening of the session in Strasbourg.

The Fuego volcano in Guatemala is still active with over 100 people pronounced dead, and 2 million affected by the eruption, amounting to more than 10% of the population. On behalf of the European Parliament, President Tajani expressed support for the people of Guatemala at such a difficult time.

On 21st May, the European Court of Justice overturned two decisions taken by the European Parliament’s Bureau (made up of the Parliament’s President and 14 Vice-Presidents) to sanction MEP Janusz KORWIN-MIKKE for derogatory remarks against migrants and women. Commenting on the Court’s decision, President Tajani said “all who say women are inferior to men should be sanctioned.” Parliament’s Bureau will discuss whether they should appeal against the Court’s decision.
