It was yesterday that Ambassador Zhang Ming welcomed Brussels to the Chinese New Year 2018, the Year of the Dog. The Chinese Mission to the EU organised yesteday evening an exquisite Gala reception and show at the prestigeous Salle Henri Le Boeuf of BOZAR in Brussels. In this article the speech of HE Mr Zhang Ming, Ambassador of the Chinese Mission to EU, follows:

“Normally on this date Chinese people get together with their families…Tonight the city of Shenzhen is going to have a wonderful performance: music, dance, acrobatics and martial arts. It is a good opportunity; you will experience the traditional Chinese customs and the vitality of modern China… I want to thank you all for your presence today. We cannot wait to watch your performances.

The year of 2018 is the China-EU tourism year.

There will be many more activities like this one through our Embassy. I am confident that with these activities China and the EU  will be able to understand each other better and find more areas of cooperation of mutual benefit. Greater cooperation will deliver real benefits to people of both sides. The Tourism year offers a broad and open platform of cooperation. Your support and participation are very much welcome.

I want to take this opportunity to thank President Jean-Claude Juncker of the European Commission for sending New Year’s messages and greetings to the Chinese people. In a video he said that the Year of the Dog will be a year of loyalty, sincerity and harmonious relationship between China and the EU. I simply cannot agree more.

I hope that the EU can work together with China in the spirit of sincerity and take genuine actions to make a good wish come true.

To conclude, I wish to all of you good health and great success in the coming year. I also wish China-EU relations great success and prosperity.”
