Spokesperson of the Chinese Mission to the EU Speaks on a Question Concerning EEAS Spokesperson’s Statement on Hong Kong

Q: The spokesperson of the European External Action Service (EEAS) recently issued a statement concerning the extraterritorial arrest warrants issued by the Hong Kong Security Police. What is China’s comment?

A: China strongly deplores and firmly opposes the EEAS’ irresponsible statement regarding the legitimate law enforcement activities of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). Hong Kong affairs are purely China’s internal affairs. We strongly urge the EU to respect China’s sovereignty and Hong Kong’s rule of law and to immediately stop emboldening anti-China destabilizing forces under the guise of “freedom of speech.” The Chinese government remains unwavering in its determination to safeguard China’s national sovereignty, security and development interests, implement the principle of One Country, Two Systems, and oppose interference in Hong Kong affairs by any external force.
