The President congratulated the Prime Minister on his election victory.

The Prime Minister in turn congratulated the President on her nomination as President of the European Commission.

The President emphasised the challenges facing Europe and the need for greater security and economic cooperation given the fundamentally changed geopolitical context following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, as well as shared global challenges including addressing climate change.

She expressed her certainty that the EU and the UK would continue to share a common resolve on standing with Ukraine for as long as it takes.

The President also emphasised the importance of the unique relationship between the UK and EU in addressing these challenges, and looked forward to meet to discuss how they would take forward the agenda to strengthen cooperation and reset the relationship.
